There are a number of routes into Latvia via road, with road-based boundaries on all the other Baltic countries crossable, as well as routes from Russia available. There is also the opportunity to drive on the Via Baltica – a new highway that runs through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and offers a multitude of tourist attractions on the way – some of which were not available for foreigners to see for many years. There are a number of bus or coach services to Latvia from a fair few European countries, including France, Germany, Sweden and Finland, and Eurolines offer a number of services to the country from London’s Victoria Coach Station.A standard pink EU driving license is accepted as documentation, though if a green license is held an International Driving Permit must also be obtained. www.eurolines.co.uk
